Blank walls are boring

Really, you can never have enough art.

Sadly, I have no reference for these, so if you know, please speak up!
I'd love to give credit where credit is due.

Vintage illustration

My great grandparents gave me this book the year I was born in 1976.
That's the year of the Fire Dragon by the way.

It is still, to this very day, one of the most inspiring books I own.
The illustrations are just beautiful.
There are many artist's in this book, but let me show my two favorite.

Gordon Laite

Adrienne Segur

And while we are on the subject, lets take a look at Evaline Ness.  She's not in this paticular book, but her work is awesome.

Awesome, right?

Virgo Full Moon and OCD

It's that time again folks!
The moon is full in Virgo this afternoon and everyone is feeling that familiar itch to clean and organize and straighten things up.

Unless you happen to be like one of these people featured in The Selby.
I really do love this site, but c'mon! If you know someone is coming to your home to photograph it, wouldn't you at least attempt to pick up a little

grrrrr

No one can possibly get to any of those books.  Also, dusty.

Ok her house looks clean, but she scares me.

Those cords look like a fire hazard.  And what is that thing on the left?
A comforter?
Is that a chair??

Really?!  Even in college my room never looked like this.

She's proud.

And finally, the adorable Krysten Ritter.  She doesn't appear to be a slob at all. Yay!
(Can I just say how furious I am that her show was cancelled.  Very sad.)

Ceramics are my weakness

Maybe it's because my ceramics teacher at KCAI told me I was worst student he's ever had,
but I am envious of anyone who does this well.
And one day dammit, I will take another class, and everyone will be amazed!

It could totally happen.

Anyway, I'm loving...

Michelle Summers, whoever you are, you are KILLING it.

and Nathalie Choux's whimsy.

This makes me want to paint on plates again.

Detoxifying thoughts

Thanks to the Mardi Gras season and stupid Valentine's Day, I have been eating things like this:

(Hell yes, we got a FREEBIRDS!!)

Things like this make me pudgy and sluggish. Feeling the need for foods that aren't swimming in sour cream (sadly), I Google "Green Juice".  Cause I'm a follower and everyone else is doing it.

I have yet to make any of the recipes I have found, partly because I don't have a juicer.  But it's really the thought that counts!
So while I wait for a juicer to magically appear at my front door, let's enjoy some pictures of Louie and I with some cats.  Way more fun than green juice anyhow.

He is nailing this pose, don't you think?

Help

I will be submitting one piece to the show Critical Mass which will open at Artspace on Feb 28.
ONE only!
So, this is obviously where I need your help.
Pick your favorite out of the three and please leave a comment letting me know your selection.
Thank you for helping me with my indecisiveness!

Happy Year of the Water Snake

I dug up this piece from 2005.
"It Always Comes Between Them"

and also this.  Which has nada to do with snakes, I just like it.

"Choked and Overflowing"

Happy Monday everyone.  I for one am still recovering from all the Mardi Gras activities.
I sense a detox week!

Happenings

Things going on outside...

It seems like it is this foggy every morning. I LOVE fog.

Ok, what are these trees?  Dogwood?  Who cares.  They are gorgeous and they should make some that just stay like this all year long.

Things going on inside....

The FLU.  David has it.  Pray for us.

But don't worry about me, guys, I have pink champagne!
It has special powers that block the flu virus. For real.

Blow

Ok, so this is technically a kids craft, I think, but it is so much fun!  As long as you don't pass out.  Saturate a brush with any kind of water based paint, making sure you get it very wet. Then take a straw, and blow across it.  This part may take a few trys to get it right.

It's actually quite meditative once you get going.

Keep going till you get just like Pollock.
