Venus retrograde and a new painting

Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and money
appears to be moving backward (it really isn't) till Jan 31st.

How many people do you know right now who are seriously evaluating their relationships,
finances, and/or their general appearance?

Good.  That's what Venus retrograde is for.
Figuring out the kinks and then when she moves forward, you do too.

Meet Mystic!

Welcome to my first astrology interview!
Mystic Medusa runs a great little site that is witty, addictive and incredibly accurate.
I make sure to read it daily and I highly recommend subscribing
for all kinds of starry treats.

She often uses some of her favorite artists to illustrate her posts,
which are sprinkled throughout this interview.

Olaf Hajek

1. Name, Astrology sign, and location please.

Mystic Medusa – Pisces, Aquarius Rising, Moon in Libra – Bondi, Sydney

2. What are you currently working on?

My unbelievably cool online Tarot for the site.

James Jean

3. Who are your favorite artists?

The Mexican Surrealist set – Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning and Co. Contemporary there are SO many but Kathleen Lolley, Lily Padula, Ryan Heshka, James Jean spring to mind. I feature my faves on the site, to illustrate the horoscopes and particular posts.

Leonora Carrington

4. What's the best advice you ever received about your career choice?

To not focus on what others in your field are doing or care overly about their perceptions but do your most original work & care about the actual consumer, the reader not crap industry politics. And the oldie but a goodie: there really is no substitute for hard work and focus.

Ryan Heshka

5. Favorite place(s) in your city?

God so many! Bondi Beach, Otto Ristorante, Whole Foods in Bondi/Dr Earth in Newtown (for healthy food, good Vegan stuff) Centennial Park, the Buddha Bar in Newtown (it is a spa, not a bar) & the Hive Bar in Erskineville, the Spit to Manly walk…

6. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
And while we're at it, what about a different era?

Where I live now…a different era? No way! Zero internet, no feminism, witch-burnings – shudder. But okay, I would have liked to have known Luis Bunuel or Nikola Tesla, my history crushes.

Leonora Carrington

7. What do you usually mindlessly doodle?  (do you have a picture of this?)

Pentagrams – you seriously do not want to see a page full of my pentagram doodles – it would make me look nuts.  A pentagram is not, btw, some symbol of devil worship, it is the five pointed Star of Venus. Her orbit tracks a pentagram shape – it is magic.

Kathleen Lolley

8. First website you peruse of the day?

Mine - to check out the comments whilst I was sleeping and then Quartz – http://qz.com

9. What's the worst movie you've ever seen, but secretly love?

Lol I am way more overt than that but I definitely love movies others don't get - e.g. Gia – the bio pic of supermodel Gia Carangi. And I loved an early Javier Bardem film called GoldenBalls – he is a Dali obsessed hustler – that I don't think enough people appreciated.

Max Ernst

10. Any pets?  Any kids?

Yes! Two children – a boy & a girl, Cancerian and Gemini…Two cats – Phoenix (Scorpio) and Tesla (Aquarius)

James Jean
